LSF Caught Attention at MSOE Health Fair

On April 22, Earth Day, a heath fair was held in Kern Center on MSOE campus. Thanks to Kristen Trongeau, one of our PR volunteers, LSF was lined up at the Fair and owned a booth. Ayla Yundem and Cassie Simpson were very kind to offer their time to man the booth. They wanted to share some interesting  and inspiring observation through this post. Ayla explored the Fair, and LSF seemed to be the only one of its kind there. (YAY!! We led the market, lol.)  “We set out literature for people to pick up, both on LSM and detecting ovarian cancer, and small

People in LSF (4)–Todd Novotny

Todd was kind enough to share his story with us. What he said depicts a detail at LSM that is carefully planned for all the participants. Wanna know what it is? Let’s hear Todd out: ” I’ve been friends with Mark since junior high school. I became good friends with Laura when she started dating Mark and stood up in their wedding in 2004. I’m an avid runner and I participate in local charity 5k races in Milwaukee. In addition to running the 5k race in all three past Smile Miles, I help with event day set up, from blowing up balloons to putting

People in LSF (3)–Jayna David

Jayna David is both a family and a friend to Laura. She’s always been wanting to show support to Laura and all those battling ovarian cancer. This thought drove her to become a part of LSM when it started 4 years ago and stay actively with it. Jayna is helping organize the Giggle Gallop. The items the kids will receive in the goodie bags are a result of her hard work. She will also stuff the bags, help set up and clean up on the day of the event. She has experienced many memorable moments with LSM. One of her favorites is last

People in LSF (2)–Heather Schuldt

Heather Schuldt has been very involved every year in the planning process and the day of event and she has been a close friend of Laura for a long time too. She is one of the people who have been supporting  Laura with a smile. You can tell it from the picture. She is the one that wears the dark shirt. Heather responded very quickly to our request for volunteer stories. Let’s see what she wanted to tell us: ” The reason I volunteer to help out with Laura’s Smile Mile is to show support for my dear friend Laura David,

People in LSF (1)–Denielle Beilfuss

The growth of LSF and ongoing success of LSM depends largely on our volunteers.  In 2009 alone, the Smile Mile had over 50 volunteers! They’re all valuable assets to LSF. In the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing those warm-hearted and talented individuals to you.  You’ll have a chance to put names and faces to these people behind the scenes. Their stories with Laura and the Foundation will tell you more about who we are and what we’re doing. By this chance, we also hope to show our gratitude for those who have been gladly donating their time and effort to promoting LSM

LSF Monthly Meeting

On the sunny and breezy Sunday, April 11th, Laura’s Smile Mile volunteers gathered together at the monthly meeting. It was an important part of the preparation for the upcoming 5k run/walk. We have jointly accomplished a lot since the last meeting in February. Everything is coming along smoothly. We’ve been successful in getting sponsors. Great job, people! We are doing everything we can to make the event a great fun for all participants. Face painting at the Giggle Gallop, a variety of raffle prizes, delicious foods…more exciting things will be waiting for you to explore. Laura looked good that day. She was happy

Ovarian Cancer Alliances List

An idea popped into my mind when I was searching online for information concerning ovarian cancer. How about compiling a list of local ovarian cancer alliances across the country? Many ovarian cancer survivors and their family and friends find it hard to connect with other survivors and their family and friends. I’m hoping that such a list can at least be the starting point from where people in need may form their own supporting group.
