Meet our newest sponsor, Performance Running Outfitters, the largest running specialty running stores in Wisconsin.
Like many of us, Trae and Jessica have been affected by ovarian cancer. They feel strongly about a healthy lifestyle and are very passionate about running. We are honored to have their support!
New this year, runners/walkers can pick up their registration packets early at PRO’s Shorewood location on Friday, June 1.
Let’s get to know Trae.
I am a husband to Jessica, who is the brains and brawn behind PRO. We met in high school track and have been together ever since. I am a software developer during the day sitting in a cube, and then at night I am coaching my 15th season of track for the Brookfield Central girls team. Jessica has coached the Lancer girls cross country team for 6 years, and works the stores exclusively. I lost my mother 1 month before we opened our first store from cancer and Jessica’s mother is battling cancer now.
Tell me about your business. How did it start?
Jessica was unhappy in her previous career in sales and wanted to own her own business. She saw space available next to a health club and thought it would be a good idea to have a running store there. By the time we decided to give it a go, the space was already rented, but then we looked at other possible locations. We first met with a group in Brookfield to discuss a lease and build out and they told us, “Who needs a running store?”. Needless to say we got quite discouraged. We had trouble getting certain brands to open us, and we didn’t know that 5 other running store we going to open at the same time in the area. Then we met Jake Ruby, the owner of Ruby Isle, who encouraged us and has been a huge help in making us the largest specialty running store in Wisconsin.
How did you get involved with Laura’s Smile Mile? Why is it important to you to be involved?
Denielle knows my cousin, and somehow the topic came up for sponsorship. He encouraged her to call us, and when she did we jumped on the opportunity. Besides our personal involvement with Jessica’s mother, we always try to promote local races as much as we can. Getting people out running is awesome, but getting them running for a cause is even better! :-) We can help raise money for a great cause and hopefully get people motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Tell us about what you will be doing with Laura’s Smile Mile.
We are going to be giving away gift certificates for the top 3 finishers in the mens and women’s races. We provided all of the race numbers, and will be hosting a packet pickup at our temporary Shorewood location on the Friday before the race.
Anything else you would like to add?
We are going to be opening the biggest specialty running store in the area in Shorewood in August. It will have a running track in it to try on spikes and shoes. It will be twice as big as any of our other stores. We are super excited!
Participants can pick up registration packets at the Performance Running Outfitters Shorewood location 4401 N. Oakland Ave on June 1st 11am-8pm. Check out their website here
