Our 2011 winner for largest team, Marching for Marilyn, is back again ready to defend their title!

Marching for Marilyn's 2011 team banner.

My name is Jennifer Borzymowski and I created team “Marching for Marilyn” to support my mother-in-law, Marilyn Borzymowski, who was diagnosed with stage 3c Ovarian Cancer in April of 2011.  I felt a great desire to do something to show Marilyn how much she is loved and how many people support her as she fights this disease.  I also wanted a way to raise both awareness and money to support the women affected by this disease and Laura’s Smile Mile was and is a great fit!
Our team is named “Marching for Marilyn” because we are all doing just that – we are running and walking for Marilyn – and all women like her – so that we can wipe out ovarian cancer once and for all.  Marilyn had just started her chemotherapy at the time of the 2011 Laura’s Smile Mile event.  After seeing her struggle with chemo last summer it makes me more determined than ever to fight for a cure so that no one else has to go through what Marilyn has gone through.  We are so very grateful that Marilyn is healthy today – but the treatment was far more difficult on her than any of us imagined.  No one should have to suffer like that – but knowing it was her best shot at kicking cancer’s butt she fought through the chemo process and has just a few more cycles to go to finish up the the clinical trial she’s participating in.
At this time the 2012 “Marching for Marilyn” team has 37 members and I’m sure we’ll pick up a few more as the event date gets closer.  We have a large sign/banner that the teams signs each year.  Last year’s banner is hung in the entry way of Marilyn’s house so she can be reminded of all the love and support she has each time she goes in and out the door.  It’s a great physical reminder that she is not alone in this fight.  We also do additional “goodies” in each team member’s bag as an extra thank you.  Last year we gave out additional bracelets and teal ribbon magnets.  I can’t reveal  this year’s goodie or it’d ruin the surprise!
Our team was lucky enough to be the winner of a Buca di Beppo gift card for the largest team for 2011.  We will be having a team thank you luncheon/kick off party at the end of May to celebrate our success and more importantly Marilyn’s good health.

Thank you, Jennifer!

Teams that have registered by May 15 will have their team names published on the Laura’s Smile Mile website. Reminder that teams of 10 or more participants registered by May 29th receive a discounted registration rate-only $18 per person!
