Mom/Gramma, Alice Miller, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in April,2007. We, as a family, have participated in Laura’s Smile Mile every year since in order to help raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer. My daughters and I are avid runners, and Laura’s Smile Mile is always a great addition to our summer schedules. And, for a cause that’s close to our hearts? We wouldn’t miss it.
This year is particularly important for us as Mom/Gramma recently entered into hospice care. We are anxious for a number of our family and friends to join us for Laura’s Smile Mile alongside Mom & Dad/Grampa, her resilient companion.
Mom’s name is Alice Miller, and we’re running and/or walking MILES to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer. Pretty simple :-)
We were originally hoping for at least a dozen participants on race day; however, we now have almost 30 family members and friends preparing registration forms. Some family members will be joining us “virtually” – signing up as part of the team and running in their respective locations on race day (Georgia, North Carolina, etc). We are having t-shirts made for the race, as well…light blue (Mom/Gramma’s favorite color) with our team name and the ovarian cancer ribbon on them.
This year will be the first we’ve been able to put a team together, and we are so anxious to have at least 3 of Mom/Gramma’s 7 kids and at least 4 of 15 grand kids (plus more family & friends!) there to support her at Laura’s Smile Mile. More importantly, we’re just happy to have Mom/Gramma still here with us.
Thank you, Teri!
Reminder that teams of 10 or more participants registered by May 29th receive a discounted registration rate-only $18 per person!
Also, teams that share a story with us will be featured on our blog. We will create an image from the text you provide and post it to Laura’s Smile Foundation’s Facebook page. The team with the most “Likes” under their image in our 2012 LSM Team Photos album will win a prize.
