We created “Team Tami” in honor of my best friend, Tami Hess, who lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer in October of 2010. We supported her during her fight and want to continue to support those women who are still fighting this disease. Tami was a wonderful friend, wife, daughter, sister and aunt who brought joy to us all. She was one of those rare people whom everyone loved as soon as they met her, and she is so deeply missed. She was mischievous, sweet and fun and maintained her sense of humor and love for life throughout it all. We know she’d be so pleased that we’re continuing to support this cause on her behalf.
It’s our way to celebrate Tami. It may not be the most creative name, but we think the alliteration is catchy :)
We will have 10 participating on June 2nd, and some who are unable to join us but who have made donations to help the cause. We haven’t been able to get our t-shirt design worked out yet, but hope to put something together for the walk!
Anything else you would like to add?
Tami was in her early 30s when she was diagnosed and none of us knew very much about Ovarian Cancer at that time. We now know how important it is to educate women about the symptoms of ovarian cancer and stress the importance of early detection. We are proud to support Laura’s Smile Mile to help get the word out!
Thank you, Karie!
Reminder that teams of 10 or more participants registered by May 29th receive a discounted registration rate-only $18 per person!
Also, teams that share a story with us will be featured on our blog. We will create an image from the text you provide and post it to Laura’s Smile Foundation’s Facebook page. The team with the most “Likes” under their image in our 2012 LSM Team Photos album will win a prize.
