Team captain Shelly Cowan tells Laura’s Smile Foundation about Team Twinkie.
I am a married (31 years) mother of two beautiful daughters from Green Bay, WI. This is the 4th year that my daughters and I have participated in Laura’s Smile Mile.

Team Twinkie at Laura's Smile Mile 2011

Last year my daughters suggested we start a team and Twinkie is a college nickname for the person we walk in support of. We had ten people walking last year and I believe 11 will walk on June 2nd. We have team t-shirts but we didn’t put our team name on them. The shirts have a ribbon on the front with the word hope written through it. My daughters and I have tattoos of this same design. The back of the shirts say “September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month but for me it’s also January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, October, November and December”.

August 2008 is when this disease unexpectedly entered into and changed our lives. This walk is a great event which has become an annual event for us. I’m thankful that it seems to grow each year, that mean awareness of Ovarian Cancer is spreading.
Thank you, Shelly!
Teams that have registered by May 15 will have their team names published on the Laura’s Smile Mile website. Reminder that teams of 10 or more participants registered by May 29th receive a discounted registration rate-only $18 per person!
